My Son is Home from the Hospital
I've blogged a couple of times over the past few days about my son's rhabdomyolysis and his subsequent hospital stay.
Over the past 36 hours, his creatine kinase levels fell to the 3000 range, low enough for the medical team to approve his discharge. J is finally back home.
He commented on how weird it felt to be free after being restricted to a single room the past few days. "I know the feeling," I said, reminded of the strange feeling of dissociation I felt when I was released from the inpatient behavioral unit after my two-week stint back in 2013.
Right after we left the hospital, we stopped by a Miller's Ale House so J could eat some real grub after four days of cafeteria fare. There isn't much that a big plate of chicken tenders and fries can't fix when you're thirteen.
After some much-needed cuddles with Shea, he scurried off to his bedroom, where he has been silent ever since. Trust a lie down in your own bed after half a week tossing and turning on a hospital bed to heal the soul.
